Here’s What to Drink Instead of Coffee

You’ll agree that coffee in the morning often feels like godsend: it gives you a mighty kick and helps you get things done.

However, if you feel that you can’t start the day without coffee… then caffeine may be doing you more harm than good.

There are – obviously! – dozens of benefits to coffee.

But becoming caffeine-addicted could make you feel more tired during the day, requiring you to drink more coffee to beat the fatigue… and so on, and on!

In order to try and break the magic circle of fatigue-coffee-fatigue, here’s what you can try drinking in the morning for a boost.

Green tea & black tea

Green tea and black tea have just enough caffeine to give you a boost without making you jittery.

Both green tea and black tea are made of the same plant but the way they’re processed differs. (black tea is left out to ferment, thus getting its black colour)

Generally, black tea has a bit more caffeine than green tea – 40-50 mg per cup, compared to 30-40 mg per cup in green tea. A cup of coffee has about 137 mg of caffeine.

Don’t be afraid to experiment (add some lemon and mint, perhaps?) and find out which one feels better to you!

Matcha powder is finely grounded green tea leaves – a staple in traditional Japanese tea rituals!

There are a few key differences between matcha powder and green tea. Actually, did you know that matcha is made exclusively out of shade-grown leaves?

Matcha powder is now widely available and easily accessible. And the best part?

It doesn’t have to be used exclusively for tea making: add it in your morning smoothie, a superfood protein bar, or to your home-baked goodies!

Just water!

Dehydration may be a not-so-obvious reason you feel fatigued, struggle to focus, and fight headaches, both in the morning and throughout the day.

Instead of reaching out for coffee right away, treat your body to a large glass of water first thing in the morning. Some notice the improvement immediately!

Apart from it, coffee may make you dehydrated faster, so always aim to drink a glass of water for every cup of coffee you have.

Raw cacao

Don’t mistake raw cacao with cocoa or hot chocolate – raw cacao powder is a much healthier alternative!

It’s probably going to take you a while to get used to the flavour of raw cacao but once you do, you won’t be looking back. Raw cacao is packed full of antioxidants and is known as a powerful superfood that may just give you the kick of energy you need.

And the best part? Add it to your smoothie for a complete breakfast on the go!

What do you think – could you give any of these a try and most importantly, would they work?
