Make Your Camping Trip More Fun, Less Stressful
Are you getting ready to make the most out of summer?
2020 has been unlike any other year we’ve had so far.
While we’ve all been very fortunate here in our beautiful Aotearoa, it may be a while before it’s safe to resume international travels.
However, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying a little bit of family fun in ways that are safe for you and your loved ones.
If you’re looking to bring a bit of adventure during the summer season while staying safe, then here’s an idea: camping!
With that being said, here’s how you can make your camping trip a lot more comfortable and a bit less stressful.
Make a checklist
Every *successful* camping trip begins at home.
Spending half an hour planning ahead will be well worth it once you arrive at the campsite.
You know your family the best but we’d advise on creating a checklist that has all of these categories:
- Camping equipment + campsite essentials
- Sleeping gear
- Cooking & kitchen utensils
- Food, drinks & snacks
- Personal hygiene & clothing
- Health & safety kit
Feel free to add more categories as needed, depending on the specific needs of your family.

Plan ahead
Camping is a much more pleasant (and a lot more relaxing) event if you plan ahead.
For instance, writing down a grocery shopping list is very reasonable. Planning out the whole menu is smart. Prepping some of the foods for your trip is a lifesaver!
If you’re ever unsure regarding what you may or may not need, our best advice is to mentally go through an average camping day.
Let’s say, the kids run around on the nearby lake or beach, and they get wet, which means, a few towels will be more than necessary to pack. Afterwards, they’ll get hungry (or hangry!), so you better have those snacks ready nearby and so on.
Keep it short & sweet
If this is your first time camping (solo or with the family), then keep it short & sweet. A couple of days in nature is more than enough to unwind but also, to start your camping career.
Another thing we’d like to say here is that there’s no need to go on the other side of your country. If you’ve never done it before, stay close to home.
In New Zealand, we’ve been blessed with beautiful nature, often an hour or two away from home, so why not make the most of it?
Once you see whether camping is your cup of tea, feel free not only to go on longer trips but to make them more adventurous.
Camping can be glamping
If camping isn’t your thing, then don’t give up just yet – maybe glamping is!
Actually, the number one reason why people dislike camping is that the tent doesn’t feel comfortable enough. The ground is too hard and too cold, the nights are too dark… you finish the list.
However, glamping provides a solution to all of those problems!
For instance, the Fullair Top Mattress is ideal to transform a basic tent into a comfy sleeping arrangement. Simply take your bedding with you and you won’t even notice the difference.
Then once you’re done using the top mattress, wash it, and use it at home – or store it until your next trip.
Have you ever been camping – or glamping? What’s your favourite camping destination in New Zealand?
